Are your pepper mills made in England?
Yes. Our sterling silver pepper mills and salt mills are handcrafted in England by Hersey & Son Silversmiths using traditional silversmithing techniques before being hallmarked and carefully finished.
Can I engrave a silver pepper mill?
Yes, our sterling silver pepper mills and salt mills can be engraved with names, initials, dates or a short message, making them thoughtful personalised gifts for weddings, anniversaries, retirements and other special occasions. We engrave on the side, at the bottom of the mill, on the opposite side to the hallmark.
Do pepper and salt mills use the same grinding mechanism?
No. Pepper and salt require different grinding mechanisms because salt can corrode components designed for pepper. We recommend using each mill only for its intended purpose to ensure the best performance and longevity.
Are your pepper mills hallmarked?
Every sterling silver pepper and salt mill is fully hallmarked in accordance with UK hallmarking regulations, confirming the purity of the silver.
What makes a sterling silver pepper mill a good wedding gift?
A sterling silver pepper mill combines everyday practicality with traditional craftsmanship. Optional engraving allows you to personalise it with names, dates or a special message, creating a lasting reminder of a special occasion.
What is the difference between a pepper mill and a pepper grinder?
There is no practical difference. The terms are often used interchangeably, although "pepper mill" is the more traditional name.
Can I buy matching salt and pepper mills?
Yes. Many of our designs are available as matching sterling silver salt and pepper mills, creating an elegant set for the dining table or a memorable gift for a special occasion.
How should I care for my silver pepper or salt mill?
Clean the silver with a soft polishing cloth to maintain its shine and store it in a dry place when not in use. Avoid immersing the silver body or working parts in water. As salt is naturally corrosive, we recommend wiping the mill after use and emptying it if it is to be stored for an extended period.
